Ashok Group was the beginning of a great legacy, which began way back in 1986, when Ashok Laboratory was set up on 2nd June 1986 at Jodhpur Park by Dr. (Mrs.) Ratnamala Ray, Ph.D (Biochemistry). Dr. Ray is the daughter of Late Ashok Kumar Sen, the founder member of M/s East India Pharmaceutical Works Ltd. Under her able stewardship Ashok Laboratory which started as a small diagnostic centre, 25 years ago, has slowly transformed itself into one of the leading diagnostic centres in Kolkata. It is the first laboratory in Eastern India to get NABL accreditation as per ISO/IEC 15189:2003 guidelines.
Dr.Ratnamala Ray was joined by her daughter Dr. Parbati Banerjee (Ray) who also happens to be Ph.D in Medical Biochemistry and together they have attained great success in this medical field. Both mother and daughter also happen to be the trustees of a public charitable trust which runs a Blood Bank under the name & style of Ashok Laboratory - Centre for Transfusion Medicine & Clinical Research at Jodhpur Park .The Laboratory handles nearly 300 pathological cases per day and over 50 imaging cases daily and provides employment to over 100 persons.
In 2006 Dr. Abhijit Banerjee, a renowned Pathologist joined the group as the third partner that concretised the foundation of the laboratory.
The journey of Ashok group surpassed another milestone in January 2007 when it entered into a Private Public Partnership with Government of West Bengal. Under this scheme, Ashok Laboratory is to start diagnostic facilities at three rural hospitals of Sonarpur, Nimpith in South 24 Parganas, in the space provided by the Government at the hospital sites. The Sonarpur unit under ‘PPP’ scheme had already started functioning and is doing extremely well and the others started slow but with a steady growth. The quality of services that they are rendering to the poor rural population of West Bengal is unparalleled in the history of this state and the Government is also planning to give them the Baruipur sub-divisional hospital under this scheme.
Buoyed up by the success of their medical diagnostic unit, goodwill of their blood bank and good wishes of all the doctors and patients Dr. Ratnamala Roy, Dr. Parbati Banerjee and Dr. Abhijit Banerjee have moved ahead with their latest venture of constructing and running a nursing home unit.
The promoters have acquired a plot of land at 1/402, Jodhpur Park, Kolkata – 700 068, with a plan to set up a multi-facility nursing home that would provide all modern state-of-art facilities. The said would be a 35 bedded Nursing Home with ICU, OPD with all departments like Surgery, Gynaecology etc. The 2 operation theatres will have all modern equipments so that all major operations can be performed. |
